Congratulations to Rebecca Milne-Muller, winner of the Maroubra Lions Youth of the Year Quest.

Rebecca with her award

The competition is a prestigious event with many high profile previous national winners such as Kevin Rudd and Peter Beattie. Contestants participate in a formal interview process lasting 45 minutes and a public speaking evening where they are judged on a variety of criteria including leadership skills, sporting and academic achievements and involvement with the local community.

Rebecca saw off tough competition from Marcellin College, North Sydney Boys' High School and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College in winning the overall event.

The public speaking dinner was held at the South Coogee Bowling Club and involved contestants delivering two impromptu responses and a prepared five minute speech. Rebecca spoke about the difficulties youth face transitioning into the workforce amidst rising youth unemployment. Her prepared speech resonated with the judging panel due to its topical nature and her engaging delivery.

Rebecca obviously impressed the judging panel during the formal interview and she performed brilliantly on the night. She was confident and able to articulate her ideas to the audience as a whole. She represented the school with distinction and was deserving of all the accolades afforded her on the night.
