News » TAS student excels in woodturningLast updated 10:41 AM on 23 March 2015
Matthew Smith (Year 11) has been a Technology and Applied Studies (TAS) student since he came to South Sydney High School in Year 7. He has excelled in the Industrial Arts Department where he has honed skills in the Industrial Technology Timber area.
Matthew has found a true passion and made a private purchase of his own lathe used most commonly for woodturning. Ms Brown steered Matthew in the direction of wood and pen turning understanding his interest and skill levels. Matthew has grabbed this with both hands and now has a beautiful array of finely finished timber pens. He was quick to discover that he could apply these skills in the turning of decorative acrylics which has opened his eyes to the possibilities in pen turning.
Matthew assisted the school on the open night last week showcasing his skills and quality products.
Congratulations Matthew on a job well done!
