Mathematics CAT competition award

National Mathematics Competition Success

Earlier in the year 27 students from our Years 7 and 8 enrichment classes participated in this year's Computational and Algorithmic Thinking (CAT) Competition with 60% receiving a credit or higher result. The CAT Competition is run by the Australian Mathematics Trust, which is a national body that fosters excellence in Mathematics among school students. 2017 Resource Allocation Model funding

In October 2016, all NSW public schools will receive a 2017 Planned School Budget Allocation Report. The report will assist with the management of the total budget delivered to schools through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) methodology distributes funding based on the individual needs of students and schools. This gives schools greater flexibility to make local decisions. Now in its 25th year, the Showcase @ the Juniors provides an opportunity for all our local Primary and Secondary performers to collaborate and present the range of talent in our community. NSW Crystal Growing Competition Success!

Students from South Sydney High School have participated in the Royal Australian Chemical Institute NSW Crystal Competition for a number of years. Students worked in groups using their laboratory skills to grow a crystal during Term 2 this year. Crystals were judged on clarity, shape, smooth faces and straight and sharp edges. On Tuesday evening the 2nd August the Year 7 Portrait Prize was held in the Staff Common room. Thanks to the wonderful audience who turned up on such a wet night. The judging was very difficult but eventually four prize winners were selected. Evolution of Australian Biota Excursion- Year 11 Biology

As a part of their Biology course, Year 11 students travelled to the Australian Museum and Botanical Gardens to learn about the Evolution of Australian Biota. This practical experience enabled students to directly observe fossils of extinct Australian animals and plants and compare them with current living animals and plants. TEDX Music Video Project

The school has continued its association with I-Manifest to once again produce video content for the TED-X Sydney Festival. This year I-Manifest brought together a team of song writers from ‘The Human Sound Project' and a film director, Renny Wijeyamohan from ‘Open Door Films' to work with the students to produce a music video. Coding in Action with SSHS students at Campaign Monitor On Monday 30th of May, 25 year 7 students participated in an excursion to Campaign Monitor where they were lucky enough to undertake an "Hour of Code". Duke of Edinburgh Award Training Walk

17 students completing their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards have successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh Award Training Walk. The students walked the historical 6 foot track in the Blue Mountains over 3 days (and 2 nights) carrying backpacks with all their food, clothes and camping equipment. The Gold students had an additional day and night where they walked the Lockyer's track near Mt Victoria. The Zone Cross Country Carnival was held in and around the ponds inside Centennial Park. Some amazing results! On Thursday 19th May the annual School Athletics Carnival was held at Hensley Athletics Field. The sixth National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence was held on Friday, 18 March 2016. This annual day is Australia's key anti-bullying event for schools, and encourages all students to 'take a stand together' against bullying and violence in schools, the classroom and beyond. SBS Screenwriters Competition Success!

Year 11 student Ira Friedberg takes 2nd place in SBS screenwriters competition. Ira signed up for 'Job Jump' to receive alerts about career paths which he is interested in. Two days prior to the closing date for the competition, he received a link to the SBS competition page and got straight to work.
